If your phone, laptop, tablet, or other WiFi device cannot connect to your Linksys wireless network, this guide will walk you through the most common fixes, starting with the quickest solutions.

Before changing settings, narrow down the source of the problem.

  • Identify the device: Note the exact device having issues (e.g., iPhone®, Windows® laptop, Smart TV).
  • Check for error messages: Look for specific errors like "Incorrect Password" or "No Internet."
  • Test other devices: Verify if other phones or laptops can connect to the same network successfully.

Minor software glitches in your device or router often cause connection drops.

  • Toggle device WiFi: Turn your device's WiFi switch OFF, wait 5 seconds, and turn it back ON.
  • Forget and reconnect: Go to your device's WiFi settings, select your network, click Forget, and reconnect.
  • Power cycle the router: Unplug the router's power cable, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in.
  • Restart your devices: Reboot the specific smartphone, TV, or computer that refuses to connect.

Ensure your device is targeting the right network with the correct parameters.

  • Verify network name: Confirm you are selecting your exact WiFi name or Service Set Identifier (SSID).
  • Check password accuracy: Re-enter the security key carefully, matching uppercase and lowercase letters exactly.
  • Reduce physical distance: Move your device closer to the router to eliminate weak signal zones.
  • Avoid signal interference: Keep your router away from microwave ovens, cordless phones, and thick concrete walls.

Log in to your router’s admin interface by typing its IP address (typically 192.168.1.1) into a web browser.

  • Enable SSID broadcast: Navigate to Wireless Settings and ensure your network name is set to broadcast so devices can see it.
  • Verify band compatibility: If using a dual-band router, ensure older devices connect to the 2.4 GHz rather than the 5 GHz band.
  • Check DHCP settings: Confirm the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is enabled so the router can automatically assign IP addresses.

If basic steps fail, optimize your network hardware and security protocols.

  • Update device drivers: Update network adapter software via your operating system's Device Manager.
  • Update router firmware: Check for system updates under the Administration or Firmware Update tab in your router portal.
  • Verify security protocols: Match encryption standards; try switching from WPA3™ back to WPA2™ if your device is older.
  • Change wireless channels: Switch to less congested channels (like 1, 6, or 11 for 2.4 GHz) to avoid neighbor network interference.
  • Review MAC filtering: Disable Media Access Control (MAC) filtering in your router settings if it is blocking unrecognized devices.
