How to disable IPv6 on your Linksys router
print icon

IPv6 is enabled by default on most Linksys routers. Disable it only if recommended by Linksys Support or your ISP, as changing this setting may affect your network or connected devices.

Scenarios where disabling IPv6 entirely on your router is necessary:

  • VPN Data Leaks
  • Broken ISP Implementations (High Latency and Dropouts)
  • Smart Home (IoT) Device Incompatibilities
  • Router Hardware Resource Constraints
  • Corporate Compliance for Remote Work

If you are experiencing slow network performance or dropped connections, try running ping tests to verify if IPv6 is the culprit before turning it OFF completely.

Before you begin:

  • Make sure your computer or mobile device is connected to your Linksys router.
  • Have your router’s administrator password ready.

To disable your router's IPv6, follow these steps:

1. Access your router’s web interface.

2. Click on Connectivity under Router Settings.

Connectivity section under Router Settings

3. Select Internet Settings, go to IPv6, and click Edit.

Connectivity > Internet Settings tab. Go to the IPv6 sub tab

4. Uncheck IPv6 - Automatic

Set the IPv6 to Automatic where it says Connection Type

5. Click Apply, then Ok.

After saving changes, verify that your internet connection is working properly. If you experience internet connectivity issues after disabling IPv6, re-enable the setting or contact Linksys Support or your ISP for further assistance.
