Adding a child node to the Linksys E9450-SG for Singtel

Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) pairing to add child nodes is no longer supported on the Linksy E9450-SG for Singtel Dual-Band Easy Mesh WiFi 6 Router. The pairing process will use the 2.4 GHz band. Once the child has been added, the wireless backhaul will switch to a 5 GHz band with WPA3™. The setup wizard and any child node pairing via WPS has changed and technically you can only add child nodes using the web interface.

WPS is now disabled by default due to new IMDA requirements, you only need to enable WPS if you want to add other wireless clients (not for child nodes).

Before you begin:

  • Currently only Linksys E9450-SG child nodes are supported.
  • Velop or mesh nodes are not supported.
  • The router that is connected to your Singtel equipment becomes the parent node.
  • A child node is the node that you will use to extend your WiFi, such as another Linksys E9450-SG.
  • The Linksys E9450-SG does not use WPS pairing when adding a child node, instead it uses a secured wireless connection.

1. Power on the child node and wait until the power and WiFi light turn solid blue.

2. Log in to the parent node.

3. Go to General> Internet Setup > Mesh Setup.

4. Click on Add a new node.

5. Once the Power light is solid blue on your child node, click on It’s Solid Blue.

6. The router will show the MAC addresses of available unconfigured Linksys E9450-SG nodes. Click on the MAC address that matches the one on the bottom of the child node you are trying to configure and click Next.

7. The unconfigured router will now convert into a child node. Once the child node is set up, you can click on Okay to complete the wizard.

8. Once the paring is complete, the Mesh and Internet light on the child node will turn solid blue and you will now see the child node in the table. You can rename your child node in the table and click Apply/Save.
