The Cross Band settings maximize the simultaneous use of both bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) for high speed data transfer and uninterrupted streaming and gaming. With Cross Band technology, your device will have the ability to receive a signal on one frequency (channel) and transmit simultaneously on another channel for the purpose of full duplex communication. So instead of taking turns to transmit on the same frequency, both clients can transmit at the same time but on different bands.
To understand how the Cross Band feature works, refer to the illustration below.
NOTE: In this image, the Manual Settings for Cross Band is set to 5 GHz Only.
When choosing Manual, this selects the preferred path to transmit data between the device and the wireless router or access point. Configuration on the Uplink section is independent of the configuration of the Local Extended Network.
IMPORTANT: This feature is ONLY available if your Linksys WAP750AC or Linksys range extender is on Range Extender mode.
NOTE: It is highly recommended to leave the Cross Band feature on Auto. But if you need to manually configure it, below are the settings which you can adjust.
1. Non-cross Dual Band
- Choose this option if you don't need the Cross Band feature.
- If the client connects to the extender on the 5 GHz band, then the extender will go through 5 GHz band to transmit data.
- If the client connects to extender on the 2.4 GHz band, then the extender will go through 2.4 GHz band to transmit data.
2. Cross Dual Band
- Choose this option if you want to force data transmitting by Cross Band. This is a preferred option for faster performance.
- If the device connects to the extender using 5 GHz, then the extender will go through 2.4 GHz to transmit data to the router.
- If the device connects to the extender using 2.4 GHz, then the extender will go through 5 GHz to transmit data to the router.
3. 2.4 GHz Only
- Choose this option if you want to force data transmitting by 2.4 GHz only between extender and root. This will slow down communication for devices connecting to the range extender on the 2.4 GHz band.
4. 5 GHz Only
- Choose this option if you want to force data transmitting by 5 GHz only between extender and root. This will slow down communication for devices connecting to the range extender on the 5 GHz band.
