Overview of the Wireless page

Basic Settings
Operation Mode

Switch modes directly from the web-based setup page without having to reset the range extender.

NOTE: The Access Point mode is only available for Linksys RE7350.

  • Changing from Wireless Range Extender to Access Point mode will require connecting an ethernet cable from the range extender to your existing router or network.
  • Changing the mode will require the range extender to reboot and disconnect from the network momentarily.

Extender IP address

The default setting is Automatic Configuration - DHCP. If you need to use a static IP address, just click on the drop-down menu and select Static IP and enter your IP settings.

2.4 GHz/5 GHz Wireless Settings

Wireless Range Extender mode only

The Wireless Settings displays the current status of the uplink connection to your wireless router. These settings must match your existing WiFi.

The Status section will display if the uplink is Connected. If you see the message Disconnected and you have a dual-band network, this means one of your radio bands is disconnected. To fix this, you can do either of the following:

  • Go to Wireless > Site Survey, select your WiFi name from the list and click on Connect.
  • Manually enter the WiFi settings of your existing network for the radio band that shows Disconnected and click Save

2.4GHz/5GHz Extended Wireless Settings

Wireless and Wired Range Extender mode

The Extended Wireless Settings is your range extender’s network. This is what your clients will see and connect to.
  • Enabled - When enabled, your range extender is broadcasting its 2.4 GHz and/or 5 GHz networks for wireless clients to connect to.  To disable the range extender’s WiFi, uncheck the box.
  • Make same as router settings - Check this option to change the extended wireless settings to have the same WiFi settings as the main network. It is recommended to keep your range extender’s network name unique (unchecked).
  • Network Name (SSID) - It is recommended to give your range extender a unique WiFi name than your existing network. For example your existing wireless router’s WiFi name is HOME123, you can keep HOME123_Ext as the WiFi name for your range extender.
  • Password - Enter a password for your range extender’s WiFi name.
  • Channel Width - The recommended is Auto.
  • Security Mode - The default value is WPA2 Personal.
  • SSID Broadcast - Disable or enable SSID broadcasting or leave it on Auto.

The security WiFi options are:

Network Setup

Extender Name - This is your range extender’s name to be used as a TCP hostname or NetBIOS name.  You can use this name in a browser to access your range extender settings.

Friendly Name - Give your device a friendly name. This is how other devices in your network will identify it.

Time Settings

Select your network's time zone from the drop-down menu. This is important for scheduling firmware updates when Automatic update is enabled.

Other

Click Reboot to reboot your range extender.

Make sure to click on Save on any settings that were changed to save them.

Features
Description
WPS

Once your range extender is set up, you can use the Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) feature to connect clients.

Site Survey

The Site Survey is only available in Wireless Range Extender mode. You can use this to connect your range extender to your existing WiFi. This is helpful when the status shows Disconnected in the Basic Settings.

QoS (Quality of Service)

The QoS feature is available in both Access Point and Wireless Range Extender modes.

Cross Band

The Cross Band feature is only available in Wireless Range Extender mode. It is highly recommended to leave the settings on Auto. To know how to use this feature, click here.

Spot Finder

The Spot Finder feature is only available in Wireless Range Extender mode. The Spot Finder will determine if your range extender is either too far or too close to your uplink connection.

Access Control

The Access Control feature is available in Access Point and Wireless Range Extender modes.

NOTE:  If you set up MAC Filtering on your range extender, you must also set up MAC Filtering on your existing wireless router. Otherwise, you are only allowing or preventing clients to connect to the range extender and not the router.  Make sure to configure MAC Filtering on any other router, access point or range extender that you have in your network.

To filter wireless clients by the MAC addresses of their computers or devices, select Enabled. Enabling this option will disable the
WPS.

  • Allow - Only computers on the Access Control list will have access to the range extender's WiFi.
  • Deny - Computers on the Access Control list will not have access to the range extender's WiFi.

Add a Device

  • Wireless Client - Click the dropdown arrow to display clients that are currently connected to the range extender. Select a client and click Save next to the field.
  • MAC Address - Input a client’s MAC address then click Save next to the field.

Once you save, the MAC address of a client adds itself to the Access Control list.

Once done, click on Save to apply the settings.
