This article will give you an overview of the router’s LinksysSmartWiFi.com dashboard. To learn how to log in to the router’s dashboard, click here. For Linksys MX42SH-SG and MX2001SH-SG, click here.

Features will vary by model.

Tool / Setting Description and Image
Device List The Device List page displays the list of devices that are connected to the router. Some routers will also show the signal strength on the nodes and clients so you can monitor the WiFi connection and make adjustments accordingly.

Guest Access The Guest Access page allows you to configure WiFi settings for guests. Guest Access uses WPA2™ Wi-Fi encryption. In some routers, Guest Access is disabled by default. You can enable it on this page or the Linksys app.

Parental Controls Parental Controls allows you to manage usage or block internet access on a connected device or to specific sites per device.

Priority

This feature is for Linksys EA8100 and EA7500 only. The router can give your devices priority for internet access. You can choose up to three devices – wired or wireless – to move to the front of the WiFi line. The rest of the devices on your network will share the remaining bandwidth. You might want to assign higher priority to work devices or to devices you use to stream videos or play online games. To learn how to configure this feature, click here.

Mobile Gaming This feature is for Linksys MX42SH-SG and MX2001SH-SG only.

Mobile Gaming allows you to prioritize internet usage per device. High-priority devices (wired or via WiFi) will always stay connected. Normal Priority devices share the leftover capacity. Drag and drop devices to change from Normal Priority to High Priority and vice versa. You may click on Reset Mobile Gaming to reset this page.

It is recommended to put devices for video streaming, online gaming, and other demanding applications on High Priority.

Speed Check This feature is for Linksys MX42SH-SG, EA8100, and EA7500 only.

The Speed Check feature measures the download (from the internet) and upload (to the internet) speeds of your WiFi. It is a good way to find out whether you are getting the level of service provided by your ISP.

Speeds may vary depending on several factors, including how many devices are connected to your WiFi and what those devices are doing.

Download Speed is the rate at which internet content is transferred to the router.

Upload Speed is how quickly you can upload content to the internet.

External Storage

This feature is for Linksys MX42SH-SG, EA8100, and EA7500 only.

The External Storage section displays the same configuration settings as the Linksys app. Click on Refresh to refresh this page. To create a username and password, enable Authentication. Authentication is disabled by default.

The following settings will be displayed:

  • Router name (e.g., Office)
  • Hard drive information:
    • Name of the hard drive/partition
    • Storage capacity and total storage used for every hard drive or partition
    • IP address for SMB access – computers within your network can access the storage device connected.
  • Refresh button
  • Eject icon – Click on this to ensure that your hard drive will be safely removed, and file corruption prevented.
  • Authentication – To enable it, toggle the sliding switch to ON. Enter your preferred username and password and click on Apply to save your changes then click Ok.

When Authentication is enabled, access to the storage device will be available only to those who have the username and password that you have set.

Authentication requirements:

The username should have a minimum of four and a maximum of 12 alphanumeric characters while the password should have a minimum of four and a maximum of 50 alphanumeric characters. Both can include characters such as an underscore ( _ ) or a dash ( — ).

If there is more than one USB hard drive connected to several nodes in the same network, the list of drives will also display.

The External Storage widget will only display on the parent node.

Connectivity The Connectivity page shows the product model of the router.

The Connectivity page has the following tabs and corresponding settings:

  • Basic - Admin Password, Firmware Update, and Time Zone

With the latest firmware, new requirements will pop up to help you create a new password when there is an attempt to change the admin password.

  • Internet Settings - Connection Type, MTU Size, and MAC Address Clone
  • Local Network - Router Details and DHCP Server
  • Advanced Routing - NAT, Dynamic Routing (RIP), and Static Routing
  • Administration - Local Management Access, UPnP, Application Layer Gateway, and Express Forwarding
  • CA Router Setup - allows you to add wired and wireless child nodes. To learn more, click here.
Troubleshooting The Troubleshooting page allows you to diagnose and troubleshoot problems you may be having in your network. It provides useful information about your connected devices and network details. You can also restart the router on this page.

Wi-Fi Settings

Wi-Fi Settings allows you to manage and configure the settings for your WiFi. The Wi-Fi password is masked.

For Linksys MX42SH-SG and MX2001SH-SG, Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) is disabled by default. You may enable WPS on the Wi-Fi Settings > Wi-Fi Protected Setup page or on the Linksys app.

For Linksys MX42SH-SG and MX2001SH-SG, Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) is enabled by default. You may disable DFS on the Wi-Fi Settings Advanced page or the Linksys app.

Security

The Security settings keep your WiFi safe from internet threats. You can also configure port forwarding and DDNS settings on this page.
