Getting your new Linksys router up and running is quick and straightforward thanks to the embedded Smart Setup Wizard. This built-in utility automatically handles network detection, guides you through setting up security, and optimizes your connection settings.
Before you begin:
- You must complete this setup sequence entirely before your router can access the internet.
- Make sure to locate the default WiFi network name (SSID) and password printed on the sticker at the bottom of your router. You will need these temporary credentials to connect your computer or phone to the router during installation.
1. Disconnect the old router from your modem and then restart your modem.
2. Connect your modem to the yellow Internet port on the Linksys router, and then power the router ON.
3. Wait until the LINKSYS logo LED on top of the router turns solid. The router will go online once you launch the setup wizard.
4. Connect a computer to the router wirelessly using the default WiFi settings found on the bottom label. Alternatively, you can connect a computer to any LAN port on the back of the router using an Ethernet cable.
5. Launch your web browser and enter the default IP address of the router, "https://192.168.1.1", or type "myrouter.local" in the browser's Address bar.
6. Check the box and click Next.
For advanced users: If you need to bypass the setup wizard, click the Manual configuration link.
7. The router will automatically detect your internet connection. Once it is detected, click Next.
8. Customize your WiFi name, then click Next.
Write down your new WiFi name and password. The password is case-sensitive.
For advanced users: To give each radio band a unique name, click Give my Wi-Fi bands different names.
9. Reconnect to your new WiFi name when prompted to continue the setup.
10. Create a router admin password, add a hint, and then click Next. The password is case-sensitive.
11. Write down your new router settings for future reference, and then click Next.
12. You will now be redirected to the router’s dashboard.
