What is Family Time and where can I find it?

On the Linksys MBE7000, MX6200, and LN1100, we have renamed Parental Controls to Family Time. We have also discontinued blocking by websites, but you can use the new Safe Browsing feature instead. Family Time is a feature that manages your kids’ internet use through the Linksys app. This feature allows you to pause internet access or schedule a time to block internet for individual client devices.

You can access Family Time from the main menu and dashboard of the Linksys app.

Family Time is accessible from the main menu and the widget on the home page of the LinksysSmartWiFi.com page or when you log in by the router’s IP address.

To access,
log in to the web interface, and then click on Parental Controls.

  • Family Time only applies to devices connected to your home WiFi. Family Time cannot manage internet access and activity if a device is connected to the internet over a mobile data plan; pauses will not apply.
  • Basic parental controls do not block access to mobile apps, only to web URLs. For example, www.facebook.com can be blocked, but the Facebook app cannot.
  • Block by websites has been discontinued. Use the new Safe Browsing feature through the Linksys app instead.

Why does my child’s phone still have internet access after I paused it?

It might be that your child is connecting to the internet over a mobile data plan. Family Time only applies to devices connected to your home WiFi. Devices connected to the internet over a mobile data plan can still access the internet.

Also, basic Family Time does not block internet access to mobile apps, only to web URLs using a desktop browser on the mobile device.

Some devices such as laptop computers can access the internet in multiple ways. A laptop has an ethernet port for wired access and a wireless connection for WiFi access. Once a device accesses your router with either of those methods, it will appear on your Devices screen as a unique device. They will all be named the same unless you change the name for a device. Be sure to choose all the devices individually when assigning Family Time; otherwise, the controls won’t apply to those that were not selected.

How do I Block Specific Websites using Family Time?

Family Time has been discontinued blocking by websites. We highly recommend using the Safe Browsing feature.

If you were previously using this feature and have now updated to the latest mobile app. Those existing blocked websites will continue to be blocked but you can no longer manage or add more. The only option is to remove them and use Safe Browsing instead.

Can I configure Family Time from a web browser?

You can still configure a pause or schedule a pause of internet access using a web browser. However, block by websites has been discontinued.
